BBC Weather forecast: MORE snow for Britain as second BURST of Siberian chill heads to UK

Brutally cold Siberian winds are set to strike on Saturday, plummeting temperatures and bringing more snow to southern parts of the country.

Weather Meteorologist Simon King said there is high-pressure building over Scandinavia, meaning that bitterly cold wind is heading towards the UK from the east.

Mr King said: “This Siberian air drifting across the UK. So, for the weekend, significantly colder, windy. There will be some around.

“At the moment, most of the snow will be in the form of showers affecting southern areas of England. But more details on that over the next few days.”

The cold snap is set to follow a mild and wet week. Mr King said the rain is set to continue into Thursday.

He added: “It could be a little bit heavy at times in central areas, eventually pushing its way up into Scotland and northeast of England – further south and west there will be some brighter skies, a bit of sunshine developing, one or two heavy, perhaps thundery, showers into the afternoon.

“By Friday, colder still. Particularly in the north and east, we could well see some snow over the higher ground of the Pennines, into the Grampians and the Highlands.

“Further south, heavy and thundery shower in between some sunny spells. But again, those temperatures down just a notch. Five to seven degrees, even three degrees in Aberdeen.

“That’s when we will start to see a bit of snow in the forecast going into the weekend.”

A Met Office spokesman confirmed snow warnings would be in place for much of the country this weekend.

The Met Office has warned northern and central areas for a “risk of snow” ahead of the expected cold spell.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin stated that “there are signs” that temperatures could free fall by the weekend.

Meteorologist Liam Dutton also warned Britons could be set to see “another burst of Siberian air” sweep across the nation.

He tweeted: “Beast from the east, part two?

“Another burst of Siberian air may push westwards over Europe next weekend. It’s unlikely to be as intense or as prolonged as the last cold spell.

“Nevertheless, it brings the possibility of snow, frost and a late season chill back into the mix…”
