BBC Weather: Britain braced for THUNDER and gales as heavy rain drenches west

The BBC warned of a deeply unsettled week to come throwing up a violent and unpredictable burst of rain and wind.

Meteorologist Stav Danaos said that the divide between east and west will continue to strengthen over the next few days as a ferocious storm front develops.

He said it will be “a blustery day developing across the country but particularly blustery across the west, where the rain will also be heaviest.

“Soon pretty heavy rain will spread to most areas.

“Maybe some rumbles of thunder mixed in too.”

Mr Danaos warned that systems would be “tied in with this next area of low pressure which will develop and give quite an unsettled day to much of the country for Wednesday.”

It will be a “windy day with gales and exposure particularly around the coast.”

Heavy, blustery showers will pummel areas up and down the country as rain continues to edge its way eastwards.

BBC meteorologist Matt Taylor also told viewers to expect heavy rain to batter parts of the UK.

He said: “We will have a few more showers around on Tuesday, pushing across parts of Scotland and Northern England especially.

“More significant rain returns to Northern Ireland into western Wales and the far south west of England.

Mr Taylor said that tonight he expects the rain to become a "bit more widespread across central and southern Scotland, Wales and a good part of central and western England - some of that rain quite persistent."

Commuters should be wary on Wednesday morning as crisp pockets of fog could significantly disrupt travel.
