Trump’s defiant tweets after suspending US shutdown - ‘I was taking care of MILLIONS!'

The bombastic billionaire yesterday bowed to mounting pressure to end the 35-day-old partial US government shutdown without getting the $5.7 billion he had demanded from Congress for a in what was quickly portrayed as a political victory for the Democrats. However, he has vowed the shutdown would resume on February 15 if he is dissatisfied with the results of a bipartisan House-Senate conference committee's border security negotiations, warning he would declare a national emergency in order to get the wall money without congressional approval. Tweeting late last night, Mr Trump said: “I wish people would read or listen to my words on the Border Wall. This was in no way a concession.

It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, it’s off to the races!”

His post was followed by a barrage of tweets today, most of them focusing on his plans to build a wall along the country’s 3,145-mile long border with Mexico, which formed a central aspect of his successful 2016 Presidential campaign.

First, at 5.42am EST (10.42am GMT), in reference to the FBI’s decision to arrest and charge his former advisor, he wrote: “If was indicted for lying to Congress, what about the lying done by Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Lisa Page & lover, Baker and soooo many others?

“What about Hillary to FBI and her 33,000 deleted Emails? What about Lisa & Peter’s deleted texts & Wiener’s laptop? Much more!”

Immediately afterwards he quoted Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union, posting: ““I like the fact that the President is making the case (Border Security & Crime) to the American people. Now we know where , Chuck Schumer & the Democrats stand, which is no Border Security. Will be big 2020 issue.”

Mr Schlapp’s wife, Mercedes, has served as the White House’s director of Strategic Communications since 2017.

Nine minutes later, at 6.01 am, Mr Trump returned to the subject of the border wall, tweeting: “21 days goes very quickly. Negotiations with Democrats will start immediately. Will not be easy to make a deal, both parties very dug in.

“The case for National Security has been greatly enhanced by what has been happening at the Border & through dialogue. We will build the Wall!”

“The case for National Security has been greatly enhanced by what has been happening at the Border & through dialogue. We will build the Wall!”

Five minutes later, sticking with his theme, Mr Trump then referred to the so-called migrant caravan, the subject of enormous coverage in the run-up to the in November.

He said: “We have turned away, at great expense, two major Caravans, but a big one has now formed and is coming.

“At least 8000 people! If we had a powerful Wall, they wouldn’t even try to make the long and dangerous journey. Build the Wall and Crime will Fall!”

At 6.23am, Mr Trump, who beat Mrs Clinton following a bitter and rancorous election campaign two years ago, focused on his chances of being reelected.

He said: “Thank you to the Republican National Committee, (the RNC), who voted UNANIMOUSLY yesterday to support me in the upcoming .

“Considering that we have done more than any Administration in the first two years, this should be easy. More great things now in the works!”

In his final tweet today so far, at 6.32am, he once again talked up his chances of getting the wall built, this time referencing former FBI official Mark Morgan, who served as Border Patrol chief for the last six months of predecessor Barack Obama’s Presidency.</span></span>

Mr Trump posted: ““We absolutely need a physical barrier or Wall, whatever you want to call it. The President yesterday laid all that out. We need to do it all, including the Wall. I provided the same information to the previous administration, & it was ignored.” Mark Morgan, Border Chief for “O”!”
