April the giraffe is showing advanced signs of pregnancy, suggesting she is ready to welcome her fifth calf. Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, announced the exciting news earlier this morning (March 9) via Facebook. The zoo revealed April’s udders are filled with milk, the calf is shifting around and her tail has begun to raise. April’s keepers posted: “There is not much more we can say or report, she is ready to go.

“Udders are filled, consistent discharge, calf has shifted around a bit.

“Back end is swollen, ligaments loosened, tail raising and to the side a bit.

“These are all signs we are there. She could go at night, dawn, the day or dusk.”

As of 11am GMT on Saturday morning, March 9, more than 19,200 people are watching April’s livestream on YouTube.


The pregnant giraffe, which became a viral sensation in 2017, was announced earlier this month to likely give before the end of March.

This is April’s fifth pregnancy and comes two years after the birth of her fourth calf, a male giraffe named Tajiri.

Baby Tajiri, which means Hope in Swahili, was born on April 15, 2017.
