UK weather latest: Britain to hit 80F TODAY in Easter sun scorcher

Easter sunshine and sizzling heat will continue today with temperatures likely to soar across the UK. The latest forecast predicts highs of 26C in the South East and bookies have slashed the odds on another Easter scorcher. Easter Monday will stay dry with warm weather and sunshine in most parts according to forecasters.

A Met Office spokesman warned temperatures could be fresher on the coast and there may be scattered cloud in parts but sunshine would prevail.

He said: “Today will be a little cloudier across parts of England and Wales, but still with hazy sunshine.

“There’s a very small chance of catching a shower in the afternoon, but it will stay dry for most.

“Elsewhere it will be warm and sunny throughout, but fresher on the coasts.”

This evening will remain dry for most of Britain but there’s a chance of rain in the north and west.

After the hottest Easter Sunday on record, bookmakers have slashed the odds of the mercury reaching 80F or 26C today.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes make it 5/6 that the thermometer will hit a whopping 80F.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "Although the dreaded storms are coming, the UK has basked in excellent temperatures all weekend, and there's still a full day of sunshine to enjoy."

Easter Monday is the final day of the Easter break with most Britons enjoying a bank holiday.

Yesterday people across the UK enjoyed a serious day of sunshine.

Met Office meteorologist Ellie Creed said: “The Bank Holiday Monday is going to be pretty warm as temperatures have risen over the last few days.

“There will be plenty of clear spells overnight.

“One or two showers are starting to creep across Northern Ireland and western Scotland through the early hours of the morning.

“As the rain eases through the day, there is plenty of sunshine on offer.”

The mercury reached its highest point of the year at 25.5C in Gosport, Hampshire yesterday.

Ms Creed added: “High cloud for England and Wales meaning it could be hazy sunshine at times for the East though temperatures are still peaking.

“Highs of 25 or 26C with one or two showers possible as well on Monday.

“A similar story on Tuesday, there could be a little bit of hail and thunder mixed in.

“For the most part the sunshine continues and again it could be pretty warm for most.”
