BBC Weather: Europe set for WASHOUT as Spain and France told to prepare for 'DISRUPTION'

BBC Weather forecaster Ben Rich warned Spain and France are likely to suffer from disruption on Saturday as the two states face a deluge of heavy rain and thunderstorms. In the forecast for Saturday, Mr Rich said: “We have got some heavy rain moving across northern Spain and into southern France. That could cause a little bit of disruption.” The forecaster then warned a band of wet weather will approach from the south of the continent in northern Africa and push in close to Malta and southern Italy.

He added: “And turning increasingly unsettled across the central Mediterranean. Ahead of that weather system, some very strong and gusty winds.

“Further east in Turkey and Cyprus it is mainly fine and some sunshine. It’s a similar story for Greece.

“But ahead of that frontal system, with those strong winds blowing out of northern Africa – we could well see some Saharan dust starting to develop. And with the rain as well, that could actually give a covering in some places.

“Meanwhile across France, into Switzerland, southern Germany will see a scattering of showers and thunderstorms. It will be much cooler than it has been of late across the Baltic states.

“We continue to see a cool west or northwesterly wind here as we head through the next couple of days and into Sunday. Some rain too. That’s good news for those areas that have been affected by wild fires.

“Meanwhile, you can see this wet and windy weather continuing across the central Mediterranean.”

The UK is also set to face heavy rain over the bank holiday weekend.

From Saturday to Monday, the Met Office is forecasting a mixed bag.

Saturday will be warm and bright with a few showers in the far south and northwest.

Sunday will be a cloudier and windier day for most, with a few showers breaking out.

And by Monday, the temperatures will have dropped further, with some heavy showers possible.

But there will be dry and bright spells into June, with the Met Office long range forecast indicating thing will clear up.

The said: “The general trend for this period is currently for a more settled picture across the UK.

”Confidence is low by mid June but the most likely scenario is that overall more settled weather is likely to prevail.

“Temperatures will start a little below normal, slowly trending to normal or warm.”
