UK weather forecast: Britain to BASK in summer heatwave as temperatures soar

The May heatwave has hit the nation and will continue to push temperatures up to 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23C). The Met Office’s meteorologist Alex Burkill explained that the clear skies will create frosty and chilly mornings throughout the week but the temperatures will rise to the low twenties in the week. He began by saying: “It is a chilly start first thing on Monday morning but don’t be fooled with lots of sunshine to come, it should warm up quite quickly as we go through Monday morning.

“Taking a closer look, a lot of clear skies overnight allow temperatures to drop fairly low so a touch of frost in some prone spots with some cloud-free skies it is going to be a bright and sunny start to the morning.

“Lots of sunshine as we go through the rest of the morning as well with barely a cloud in the sky across many parts of the UK.

“As we head through the early part of the afternoon, that is where we should start to see a little bit of cloud bubbling up particularly across northern parts of Wales and northern and eastern England as well.

“Where we see lots of sunshine it is going to feel pleasantly warm, temperatures quite widely getting into the high teens and perhaps even the low twenties.

“Towards the south coast, it may be a little fresher with a bit of sea breeze developing.

The Met Office weather presenter explained that overnight it will feel colder because of the lack of cloud coverage.

He also warned of some frost going into Tuesday morning but explained that Tuesday would see slightly warmer temperatures.

BBC Weather’s presenter Carol Kirkwood also explained that temperatures are set to increase even further as the week goes on.

She said: “Top temperatures are up to 20 or 21 Tuesday but on the coast, they are going to be colder not just today but as we go through the rest of the week as well.

“There will be another chilly start tomorrow but with high pressure still in charge, things will stay very settled with a lot of sunshine.

“Top temperatures on Tuesday across Scotland, Northern Ireland and also Northern England away from the coasts we are looking at 22 possibly 23 degrees.”
