Fortnite Turbo Building Nerf patch notes news triggers fierce gaming debate

Epic Games has brought in a number of notable changes with today’s update, but one of them is far larger than others.

This would be the new Fortnite Turbo Building Nerf implemented by Epic Games and under immediate scrutiny from dedicated Fortnite fans.


For those players who might dip in once in a while and miss the major trends, Turbo Building speeds up the placement process.

This is done by allowing gamers to place structures automatically by holding down a button.

Turbo Building allows you to hold down primary fire and continuously place the selected building piece (Toggled in the Game options). Epic Games describes it as “painting” building pieces into the world quickly.

What Epic Games has done is slow down the placement process, which in theory should help level the playing field when it comes to ping.

The developer's patch notes also state that this should cut down on Turtling, which places a heavy emphasis on fortification and little on attacking gameplay.

So while Fortnite fans can still use the one-button push to place structures, instead of dropping individual blocks, they can’t do it with the same speed.

Here’s an excerpt from the official Fortnite patch notes explaining the changes made today:

  • Returned the time between subsequent Turbo Build placements from 0.05 seconds to 0.15.
  • This is intended to level the playing field regarding ping when it comes to turtling.
  • The first placement of a structure using Turbo Build remains the same.

These changes have sparked a massive debate among fans, with many looking for Epic Games to reverse the changes they just made.

This has happened in the past and there is a good chance that the dev team will look to refine, or even roll back what they have tweaked.

One user writes online: “I’m not really a good player so I don’t understand the hatred behind this.

“Could someone explain why this change is so bad? To me it seems like it just prevents turtling, which imo is not very “skilled.”

“People are saying Epic is “removing the core mechanic of their game” over a small timing delay. Is this really that much of a change?”

A follow-up reply explains: “The foundation of the game is partly building to protect yourself, or to get an advantage over your opponent.

“That’s what makes this game different from Halo, Call of Duty, etc. you can’t just stand and shoot (you can, but it won’t end well usually)

“Now that people have to build slower, the basic mechanic of the game is slower.

“For example, what happened to me today: arena mode rank 7(not bad, not good) and I’m top 10. Most of the last few circles are spent in a box shooting at people not in a box. Anytime you move, you have to box up, tarp, tunnel, call it what you want.

“Was not an issue with no limit to building. Now, when you move to a new spot, you are limited to how fast you can protect yourself. So I move to the new zone, throw up 3 walls and a roof.

“Why not four walls? Because my builds are now limited. Just in the timeframe it took me to click and build a roof, then come back to the 4th wall, I got shot and died and that person just so happened to be on the one side I could not protect fast enough.

“I can see why they changed it, but I personally am frustrated because late-game areas are completely different. Now it’s 100% “are you lucky enough to build where the storm is going” or “maybe no one is paying attention to me, run.”

Another adds: “It feels like you're building with 200 ping even though you have 0 ping.”

You can imagine that there will be plenty of feedback coming from Fortnite streamers and influencers in the coming days.
