Thunderstorms are set to blast back tomorrow

Yesterday the Met Office issued a new warning of thundery downpours in northern England and Scotland – and torrential thundery downpours are set to continue until the middle of August. In an extraordinary downturn after record temperatures in July, low pressure swirling around the Atlantic will continue to drive, thunder, lightning and hail storms across Britain for the next two weeks.

Homes and businesses face damage from flood water and lightning strikes which threaten to bring chaos on the roads and railways and trigger power cuts.

It is set to bring more scenes of mayhem like the devastating floods which brought chaos and destruction to parts of the country.

Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said: “It looks like low pressure will be the dominant force for the first half of the month across the UK.

“Next week looks like it will remain like this week – very changeable with lots of heavy showers around and flash flooding in places.”
