UK flood alerts: Government issues 29 flood warnings and alerts - Will you be affected?

Rain and showers are forecast for the UK today, particularly in areas in the west and south. The government’s Flood Information Service has issued a number of flood warnings and alerts across the UK today. Here is the latest flood alert information and weather forecast.

As of 8.22am today (October 18), flood warnings have been issued for:

  • Lower Avon at The Bridges and Stubbings Meadow in Ringwood
  • North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

Flood warnings indicate flooding is expected within the area, and immediate action is required.

As of 8.22am today (October 18), flood alerts have been issued for:

  • Barlings Eau and Duckpool Catchwater
  • Eastern Yar
  • Langford and Wendlebury Brooks from Stratton Audley down to near Merton
  • Lower Avon and tributaries
  • Lower River Soar in Leicestershire
  • Lower River Witham
  • Lower Welland
  • Mid Bristol Avon Area
  • Middle Nene
  • Middle River Great Ouse in Milton Keynes, Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire
  • Minor Watercourses in North Kesteven
  • Rase and Upper Ancholme
  • River Axe Area
  • River Cherwell from Lower Heyford down to and including Oxford
  • River Evenlode from Moreton in Marsh to Cassington and also the River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock
  • River Ray and its tributaries from Shipton Lee to and including Islip
  • River Thame and Chalgrove Brook
  • River Thames and its small tributaries from Calcutt to Lechlade
  • River Thames and tributaries from Buscot Wick down to Kings Lock
  • River Thames and tributaries in the Oxford area
  • River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough
  • River Trent in Derbyshire
  • River Wreake in Leicestershire
  • The tidal Rivers Bure, Ant and Thurne
  • Tributaries on the Upper River Thames above Cricklade
  • Upper Bristol Avon Area
  • Upper River Wey

A flood alert warns that flooding within the area is possible, and that you should be prepared for possible flooding.

As of 8.17am, two flood alerts have also been issued by Natural Resources Wales for Upper Tawe and Rivers Loughor and Amman.

Tonight: “Showers dying out for many but some rain continuing over parts of north Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.

“Winds easing in the south but increasing in the north.”

Saturday: “Another day of sunshine and showers with some more persistent rain over southern Scotland sinking over northeast England and easing.

"Windy in the north with gales for the Northern Isles.”

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: “Mainly dry with bright or sunny spells, but rather cool with early frost and fog in places.

“Cloud and rain across parts of Scotland on Tuesday.”
