UK weather MAP: Britain set for several inches of rain TODAY as Met Office issues warning

Today and later this week, the Met Office warned Britain could see a deluge of rain in some areas affected by weather warnings. Some areas of the UK will see up to four inches of rain this weekend. Here is the latest weather forecast and information on the Met Office weather warnings.

Where have the Met Office issued weather warnings?

Three yellow weather warnings for rain have been issued across the UK today and into Saturday.

One warning has been issued for the north of England between 3pm today (October 25) and 3pm tomorrow (October 26), including Leeds, Sheffield, York and parts of Manchester.

Another yellow rain warning covering much of Wales is active between 12pm today and 6pm tomorrow.

A final weather warning is active in parts of the South West, including Plymouth and parts of Cornwall and Exeter, between 3pm today and 3pm on Saturday.

The Met Office said: “Rain is expected to arrive across parts of the UK during Friday and become heavy and persistent, this is especially true for high ground exposed to the strong southwesterly wind.

“There remains some uncertainty to the locations likely to see the highest rainfall totals.

“This rain is expected to continue falling in similar areas for around 24 hours.

“As such during this period 40-60 mm (1.6-2.4in) of rain is likely, with perhaps as much as 100mm (4in) over higher ground.

Today: “Cold and windy with sunny spells and blustery showers, wintry over hills, in the north.

“Rain, heavy at times, along with strong winds soon reaching Wales and southwest England then moving northeastwards.

“Parts of southeast England may stay dry.”

Tonight: “Mild, wet and windy for much of England and Wales.

“Clearer and colder to the north with some frost, but also blustery showers in the far north.”

Saturday: “Heavy rain clearing slowly southeastwards from England and Wales.

“Colder conditions with sunny spells following, but also scattered showers, these frequent in the northwest and wintry over the hills.”

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: “Rain clears southeast early Sunday, with colder, showery weather following to all areas.

“Risk of gales in the northeast at first, and southwest later.

“Frosty by night; chilly by day.”
