SNP Ian Blackford launches furious rant on Brexit bill win 'we will have our referendum!'

The SNP MP pointed to last December's election results as evidence that the people of Scotland are standing by his party. Mr Blackford told the House of Commons "Scotland will remain an independent European country" as well as calling for the Prime Minister to respect democracy and the right of the Scottish people to choose their future.

Mr Blackford said: "This is an important point in the election we held last December the people of Scotland stood by the SNP on the basis of our right to choose.

"We will not accept being taken out of the European Union.

"I say to the Prime Minister respect democracy, respect the election result, respect the right of the people of Scotland to choose our future.

"We will have our referendum Prime Minister.

"Scotland will remain an independent European country!"

Earlier today in the House of Commons Conservative MP Sir John Hayes labelled SNP's Joanna Cherry a "bourgeois liberal" in a fierce Brexit debate.

Sir John Hayes was criticising Remainer MPs' approach to Brexit when Ms Cherry asked him to give way, he initially refused before later firing a dig at the SNP MP as he gave way to her.

The Conservative MP said regarding Remainers: "They came to regard it as desirable to inroad the familiar touchstones of enduring certainty."

"The truth is that the bourgeois liberals and at that point, I can give way to the honourable lady."

The House of Commons then erupted into laughter.

An MP was heard saying: "Wear it with pride Joanna, wear it with pride."

Ms Cherry hit back: "Well I am not going to deny that I am a bourgeois liberal.

"Many people in Scotland that are not bourgeois liberals voted to remain in the European Union."
