BBC Weather: Britain bracing for 60mph gusts to smash country as heavy rain strikes

Ms Keith-Lucas stated the worst of the weather will be felt in the south of England. Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern parts of England are expected to remain fairly dry throughout Friday. However, there is expected to be heavy rainfall through the night across the UK.

Ms Keith-Lucas said: "Today’s showers will gradually ease away as we head through the day.

"Lots of dry weather across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England too.

"Further south there are showers developing, from north wales to the south midlands.

"More rain is expected from the southwest later on in the day.

"Around rush hour there will be some rain for Devon and Cornwall.

"There will be showers from Kent right up to Liverpool.

"But drier weather for Northern Ireland and Scotland as we end the day.

"By the middle of the night, we will see more wet weather creeping in."

Twitter users took to their accounts to bemoan the lack of sunshine that has plagued the UK for weeks.

One said: “Fed up with the incessant wind!”

Another replied: “So rain again. YAY.”

A third commented: “Another weekend to look forward to.”

While a fourth remarked: “Wish the jet stream would go away from the UK.”
