Fortnite Downtime: Epic Games Fortnite servers shutting down for update 12.40

update 12.40 is launching on April 15, meaning the game servers will be shutting down on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Mobile and PC. And the good news is that Epic Games has confirmed what time Fortnite downtime will be starting later today. What the development team hasn’t shared is what is being added to the game as part of update 12.40.

Epic Games has stopped sharing detailed patch notes so a lot will be up to fans to discover on their own.

According to Epic Games, Fortnite servers are scheduled to go offline on April 15, on all major platforms.

This means that Battle Royale mode will be unplayable for however long Epic Games keeps servers down.

Epic estimates that this latest server downtime could last up to three hours, leaving the game unplayable for some time.

However, it’s more likely that everything will be completed much sooner and things should be back up and running much sooner.

Recent updates have only taken around an hour to deploy and the same could happen this week.

Epic has confirmed that Fortnite server downtime and maintenance will begin at 7am, GMT.

Fans are also hoping to find out more about what is coming next during the current season from data miners.

However, things may have changed, since Epic confirmed they would be extending Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 past the end of April.

This told fans this week: “We’re extending Chapter 2 - Season 2 of Fortnite beyond the original April 30 date. Our plan is to launch Chapter 2 - Season 3 on June 4.

“Before then, there’s lots of content coming in the current Season. We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and a couple more surprises up our sleeve.

“For continued updates on the new Fortnite Season and other plans, we’ll keep you up to speed here and on our social channels.”

When it comes to bugs, Epic Games has provided some guidance on what could be changed next in-game.

Things coming in the next Fortnite update:

  • Players may be unable to interact with Ollie, preventing them from completing their Skye’s Adventure Challenge.
  • Skye's "Pull a player or Henchman with a Harpoon Gun" Challenge may not work with Henchmen.
  • Visualize SFX Audio will pulse the direction of audio sources instead of showing them consistently. (Audio appears from the correct direction and source.)
