Overwatch update time: Overwatch Anniversary event 2020 patch coming today?

If a new report proves true, the 2020 Anniversary event will be kicking off this week on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It should be noted that Blizzard has yet to announce its plans for this year, meaning that this should be taken with a pinch of salt. And if the new report is off, it means that the big Overwatch update will probably arrive during the week of May 17. Whatever does happen, gamers can expect a new Overwatch patch launching later this month, the earliest it could arrive being May 12, 2020.

And there will likely be more included than just the new Overwatch Anniversary event. The most recent Overwatch Public Test Server build includes a number of bug fixes but nothing substantial when it comes to features.

It includes the following fixes:

  • Fixed a bug that could cause the “While You Wait” UI to become unresponsive
  • Patch Notes Button - Fixed a bug that could cause the “New” tag to remain after patch notes have been viewed.

Echo

  • Fixed a bug where Sticky Bombs could sometimes deal damage through shields.

Mei

  • Fixed interactions between friendly Mei’s Cryo-Freeze and various abilities.

Blizzard has also teased further changes that are being planned for the game, however, it’s unclear when these might arrive. If the next Overwatch event launches later this month, gamers could see the rebalancing of certain heroes, including Mercy.

Other tweaks will go through the Experimental avenue, with game director Jeff Kaplan offering more on the subject this week.

"A lot of changes targeted to make Bastion more viable, and I know many of you are just dying to see more Bastion in your matches," Jeff confirmed via a new developer video.

"So we'll see how this goes. I'm sure you'll all be very vocal about feedback."

"Lots of changes to Support heroes, some are getting brought down a little, some are getting brought up a little.

"For example, Ana is getting balance to tune her healing down a little bit, while Mercy is just getting healing that's purely a buff."

From what has been shared so far, the 2020 Overwatch Anniversary event release date has been set for Tuesday, May 12.

Like all the others, this will be when the new event and its cosmetics will be launched by Blizzard across all platforms.

The original source of this information comes from Reddit User Bloomer-OW, and was posted in the Competitive Overwatch section.

As mentioned above, Blizzard has yet to announce its plans for this year’s Anniversary event but it wouldn’t be surprising to find out just before its set to kick off.

No additional information was shared regarding what new cosmetics could be added next week on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Last year’s event kicked off on May 21 and had a June 10 end date scheduled. That means this year’s Overwatch celebration would be kicking off earlier than usual.

Unlike in 2019, Blizzard hasn’t given us a preview of what new cosmetics are being planned.

More news is expected from Blizzard on its plans for the 2020 Overwatch Anniversary event soon.
